Frequency and Duration of Sessions:
I tend to see my clients weekly and usually on the same day and at the same time as this provides consistency for the therapeutic journey. It is also useful to be able to plan to protect a space in your diary and life for regular sessions in order to get the results you hope to achieve. However, I acknowledge that for some people this may not be possible, so I aim to be as flexible as I can to meet my client’s needs and wishes. Sessions are usually for an hour and during the initial consultation the frequency and duration will be discussed and agreed upon should you wish to continue with counselling. Whilst I usually see people weekly for an hour some people may wish to come more frequently, and this is particularly true with specialist addiction counselling where people may feel they need more support than this initially. More intensive counselling is available when working with addiction so if this feels like it would be beneficial to you then please ask for details.
At our first session we will usually discuss what you would like to gain from counselling and what you hope to have achieved by the time counselling completes. This first session is as much about you getting a sense of me as a person and a therapist as it is about me getting a picture of what you are looking for. I really believe the strength of the therapeutic relationship is key for any successful counselling experience, and whilst this relationship takes time to build, the first session gives you the opportunity to assess if I am someone you would like to talk to again. If after the initial consultation you don’t wish to go ahead with counselling with me there is no obligation for you to do so. It’s really important you find a counsellor that you feel comfortable with and I will not be the right fit for everyone. If you still wish to go ahead with counselling but don’t feel I’m the right person, I will endeavour to put you in touch with another counsellor who may be a better fit for you.
Counselling is a commitment between the client and counsellor so with this in mind, alongside the need for me to manage my work diary, I have a cancellations policy in place. If you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment, please let me know with at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations between 24- and 48-hours’ notice will be charged at half price. With less than 24 hours’ notice, the full fee will be charged.
To be made by bank transfer prior to the session. Please be aware that if the session is an initial consultation, I usually suggest making the payment 24 hours in advance to protect the appointment as the session may need to be rescheduled if payment has not been received before the session is due to start. I also accept cash on the day of the session, if you prefer. Any missed payments or cancellation fees will be invoiced, to be paid via bank transfer.
